More details

“Bands of Color in Four Directions and All Combinations” (1971) is a complete portfolio of 16 prints and one of Sol Lewitt’s earliest experiments in etching. Pushing the boundaries of conceptual art, Lewitt (1928-2007) was drawn to printmaking from his first print in 1970, interested in themes of seriality and repetition. The etchings that comprise “Bands of Color in Four Directions and All Combinations” were made from just two plates, which Lewitt arranged and layered in multiple iterations to create sixteen unique combinations of parallel lines, all printed in primary colors.
